SOR vocabulary

As part of the continued development and harmonisation of the geospatial base registries (DiSGeo), a harmonised object registry (SOR) is being created: a uniform registry containing basic data about objects in the physical reality. By this we mean objects that are visible in the terrain, such as buildings, roads, water, railways and trees, terrain parts, and also some administrative objects such as localities, municipal boundaries and public spaces. At least the objects of the current base registries of addresses and buildings (BAG) and large scale topography (BGT) will be merged into the harmonised object registry, together with object data from the immovable property valuation (WOZ) administration and some basic data from other related registries. In addition, there are important areas where the new object registry touches the existing base registry for topography and the national roads dataset.

The concepts we use in the SOR, we explain in the SOR vocabulary. This is also called a thesaurus: in essence an extended dictionary, which doesn’t only give a definition for each term, but adds additional information such as relationships with other concepts. In the course of 2020-2021, we are expanding the vocabulary based on the requirements for the model of the harmonised object registry. In places where concepts are copied from existing vocabularies or are related to other concepts, we make this relationship explicit. In this way, a coherent web of related concepts is created.

You can quickly find a concept using the search bar on the homepage.

You can browse through the list of concepts in different ways:
  • A-Z:: all concepts alphabetically from A to Z
  • Hierarchy: all concepts in a hierarchical structure (taxonomy)
  • Groups: all concepts in thematical collections
  • New: overview of the latest concepts

    Energy vocabulary

    The Dutch energy-landscape is complex and decentralized. A strong and active community is a requirement for standardisation. In a decentralized landscape vocabularies have developed separately. As a result of this, a lot of parties have their own vocabularies, which can result in communication/exchange difficulties.

    As a first step in order to tackle standardisation problems, Geonovum is developping a central Energy vocabulairy, where the most important existing vocabularies are defined and related in the form of a Linked Data taxanomy. The Energy Vocabulary will be backed by the VIVET program and will contain the most important concepts with regards to the energy-transition.

    About us

    Geonovum is a government foundation with a lot of knowledge and a rich network. Making the government perform better with geo-information. That is what we work on every day. We do this by improving the accessibility of geo-information and by enabling the exchange of geo-information and its combination with other types of data using standards. We also help government organizations to make better use of geo-information by informing them about existing facilities. And by connecting organizations that need geo-information with parties who can help them with that.
